The weight on my lap felt familiar. As did the softness of the fur under my
fingers; I gently rubbed back and forth, back and forth. With each stroke came a
memory that could no longer find fulfillment in this present morning. Tears
filled my eyes once more, remembering what was. But each new day brings renewed
hope, new experiences, new friends, new love…and thus, it is with me this day.
Her name is Thelma Lou and her soft fur, large brown eyes and cold nose carve a
new place in my heart. So my tears are also hopeful that as my new life
recovers, so will my broken heart. Welcome Thelma…to my heart and to our home.
May you find our home to be a forever home made in Heaven, just for you.

Michelle, we are so sorry that Miss Princess had made her journey to the
Bridge...I know that Polly Esther has made room on her cloud for her until
she finds one of her own..although I know Princess is eager to find her
own. .If it were not for Miss Princess I would have not have the pleasure of
being owned by Polly Esther. Since you were so kind to have fostered Polly
I know you had told me you would have adopted her but The Princess did
not like her...so it was my gain but sadly only having her 22 months. It
never ceases to amaze me how dogs bring people and other dogs into our
lives...

I hope Henery doesn't struggle too much without her...

When we take our morning walks everyone seems to like to mark a good scent. Honey cannot seem to resist all the great scents she finds. Buttercup will usually hold out for a really good scent. and often if one dog pees several will return to the spot to add their scent. This can lead to very slow walks and much leash tangling. Buttercup and Honey like to morse, especially Honey who is quite enthusiastic about it/ Our best singer is Buttercup but when Beau gets going he is quite spectacular. Buttercup puts her snooter straight up in the air and lets loose. She has several tones, Beau has volume. Honey will join in but Roxane has never howled.. They do this when my son Zak comes home but not always and usuaully not for the rest of us. Zak had moved out for a time and when he visited his greetings were very impressive. Now that he is living with us again the greetings are more muted. I hope someday we can get the full-throated version recprded and we can put it on my facegook page/

Hello All, I am new to the Drool and being owned by a Basset. I have always
had dogs and currently have a very large muttley terrier who is named
BooBoo. We recently decided we needed a little adventure and took on a
little hound named Hadley. She is 13 weeks old tomorrow and boy is she
adorable. If I had known what I was missing not having a basset in my life
wow I would have started MUCH EARLIER!

Anyway I wanted to introduce myself and also ask a question of all you
knowledgable folks. Hadley has had 3 rounds of puppy shots and is due for a
4th in 2 weeks....my vet wants to give her a 5th round and that seemed
really excessive to me? Is this something normal?

I am going to be looking for another vet for my Basset anyway because after
reading up on the breed I read so many horror stories about Bloat and it
scares me to death. I was asking her what I needed to look for, what I
needed to do to prevent it, just trying to get information. She told me
that Bassets don't get bloat! I was astounded because EVERYTHING I have
read says they DO!

Thank you all for any thoughts or advice you might have for a new basset
owner! I am sure I will have questions along the way and I am glad that I
was pointed to the drool and all the fantastic people who are involved with
it!

I hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Shannon,
