HI Wendy,
We had a similar deal years ago when the local SPCA
decided to have a fund raiser and had a pig bar be que!
We help a protest outside after having no response, except
negative ones. Dress up as the animal they are killing,
call the media and hand out Why Meat is NOT green.

Subject: [heart2heart] Thoughts on Commenting to Environmental Groups
Hello Everyone,
I'm an email member of an organization called Clean
Water for North Carolina. It has a sister
organization just across the hills in Tennessee.
Today I received an email from the TN organization
about fundraising for a lawsuit they're going to
file against polluters of the Pigeon River (flows
through both states) and as part of that
fundraiser,
"homemade barbeque." YUM! Doesn't it make your
mouth water?
Gag.
So I sent an email to the organizer and let her
know, as nicely as I could, what I think of that,
and how it seems crazy (I didn't use those exact
words!) for any environmental organization to use
meat in a fundraiser.
What do you guys think, strategically speaking,
about this kind of thing? Do you think it makes
the organization think twice, or does it infuriate
them and make them think that we (vegans) are
trying to control what they eat? I suppose it
depends on the organizer and the organization.
It's really hard for me to not say something, but I
can be quiet if it's strategically called for.
I'm curious what you might do, or may have actually
done, in a similar situation, especially if you are
not exactly active in the organization itself.
Thanks!
Wendy

Hi Linda,
How did they respond to that? I can see it a
little better with a group that's already saving
animals -- sometimes, I don't know, I guess I feel
like I'm being the Irritating Vegan (I've honed my
skills...) and wonder whether I'm doing the right
thing -- I mean, I hate keeping quiet (haha) and I
think people ought to be made aware of the
inconsistencies involved, but is there a time when
it's ever too much?

Thank you! Sometimes I feel like I'm the lone
voice in this area of "progressives" who don't care
about animals. The good and the bad of vegans
being spread far and wide -- we're everywhere but
too often we're single voices.
Oh well. I'm just waiting to see if they respond
to my email now. ;)
