Not often I post on facebook, but my blood is boiling. Just saw
an article that our Olympic Teams' uniforms were designed by Ralph
Lauren but he had them manufactured in China. We have American
textilers who could have done it for miillions less. And who needs
the money more. American Olympians dressed in China made uniforms?
...you've got to be kidding!! My suggestion...dump the uniforms. DO
NOT BUY RALPH LAUREN!! Maybe he and the Olympic committee will get
the message. Go American! This is an outrage! Forward to all your
friends if you agree.

Aside from the insult of being made in China, does anyone else think they are just plain butt ugly?

The United States Olympic Committee is a private entity, funded by private donations. The US government has nothing to do with its operation. The USOC hired a designer to produce the uniforms, and the designer hired the Chinese manufacturer.

The floodgates opened when China devalued its currency by 50% overnight, back around 2000-2001 iirc.

hell, even Harry Reid (gasp!) gets it! I saw a clip of him on the news
saying 'we should take all of those uniforms, throw them in a pile, and
burn them'. wow!

Lauren but he had them manufactured in China. We have American textilers
who could have done it for miillions less. And who needs the money more.
American Olympians dressed in China made uniforms? ...you've got to be
kidding!! My suggestion...dump the uniforms. DO NOT BUY RALPH LAUREN!!
Maybe he and the Olympic committee will get the message. Go American!
This is an outrage! Forward to all your friends if you agree.

Marty,

First step would be to eliminate NAFTA.

I think when the dust settles, we're going to be able to point back to
Clinton signing NAFTA as one of the major components of this economic
situation. Perhaps moving the greatest industrialized country in the
world to a service oriented economy wasn't such a great idea?

What the hell does a North American trade agreement have to do with
China? If you want to blame Clinton, blame it on him giving Chine MFN
status. That is when the flood gates were opened to their products.

You are still focusing on a canard though. Think about how **** up
our economy is that it is cheaper to make something by hand in China
and ship it around the world than it is to make it locally. You have
to not be looking to not see at least ten things wrong.

Read the same thing this morning, waiting for the Chinese to occupy the white house next.

Aside from the insult of being made in China, does anyone else think they are just plain butt ugly?

Butt ugly, in MHO!!! The made in China is a sign of the disrespect for the United States,
by our "own", just saying.

I saw a clip of him on the news
saying 'we should take all of those uniforms, throw them in a pile, and
burn them'. wow!

So the G does the responsible thing and buys from the low cost
supplier for a change and now everyone is up in arms. Maybe they
should want to change the policies that caused on shore producers to
be less competitive than destroying serviceable property that was
bought by tax payers and charitable contributions. Then again, who is
the idiot that hired the Chaps guy to design the uniforms in the first
place?

Marty,

What killed the textile industry in the United States? Two answers
come to mind... Unions and NAFTA.
