The GMAT exam changed as of June 2012, so that there is only one writing
activity and a new *Integrated Reasoning* section. Most preparation books
purchased since January 2012 will include materials on the *Integrated
Reasoning *section, but if you are using older materials, you may want to
go to the mba.com site for help with Integrated
Reasoning or update your preparation materials.

Step 1: Take the GMAT!



“The GMAT exam is a standardized assessment that helps business schools
assess the qualifications of applicants for advanced study in business and
management.” It is a 4-hour test completed at a computer terminal with
four parts:



*Analytical Writing Assessment
*One 30-minute writing task— Analysis of an Argument. You are asked to
respond to a topic of general interest. You will analyze the reasoning
behind a given argument and write a critique of that argument. No business
knowledge is required, and you are not presenting your own opinion. Learn

*Integrated Reasoning NEW SECTION
*Integrated Reasoning consists of 12 questions which require you to analyze
and synthesize data in different formats and from multiple sources. These
questions are mostly multiple choice and provide you with short scenarios
or contexts in which to interpret some type of data. Learn

*Quantitative Section*
Thirty-seven multiple-choice questions using arithmetic, elementary
algebra and commonly known concepts of geometry to solve problems and make

critical reasoning, and sentence correction to conform to standard English.

PREPARATION FOR THE GMAT

The Graduate Management Aptitude Council recommends that you prepare for 4
weeks before taking the GMAT exam. Preparation comes in three areas:

1. Become familiar with the test-taking technology using the
tutorials provided for free: GMATPrep®
Software.

2. Become familiar content, question types and expected answer
criteria for the three parts of the exam. There are sample exams included
in the GMATPrep® Software, but you can purchase additional materials

3. Review / practice your writing, math, verbal, and logic skills
using material identified in above or with a GMAT preparation course.

and PIN number, and click on the link to Smarthinking. You will need to
register through Campus Connect in order to use the UTPB subscription to
Smarthinking tutoring services FOR FREE.

· If you are a CURRENT UTPB student OR a PROSPECTIVE UTPB student,
you can go to the Math & Science Center at Mesa 4180 (432-552-3350) for
math tutoring. Bring your GMAT materials with you and ask for help in
understanding the questions you get wrong.
