The second time, I can't see the entire menu, because the Generic Object Editor window is too big. If I switch to full screen, I can use the editor one more time. But the 3rd time, because of the size of the Generic Object Editor window, I can't even switch to full screen. I am using Weka on a machine that I access from my PC using VNC. I don't know if this is related to the problem.

Rich,

Sorry in advance for the long post with probably excessive details.

Is this happening to you in Linux? If not, you can pretty safely
ignore the rest of this e-mail. I can't seem to find a resizable
GenericObjectEditor on either Windows or OS X, but some Linux window
managers will allow resizing of any window. I believe I encountered a
similar problem previously, although at the time I blamed it on my
somewhat eccentric choice of window manager, xmonad. Doing some
extremely limited testing with OpenJDK IcedTea6 1.11.1 and Weka 3.6.6
in a VNC session, both twm 1.0.7 and Gnome 3.2.2 have
GenericObjectEditors increasing in sizes upon subsequent openings, but
they seem to stop increasing after reaching a certain size. That
said, with twm the placement of the second opened editor with a
resolution of 1024x768 (my VNC's default) makes interaction
impossible, but increasing the VNC server resolution "fixes" this.

Windows 7 (Java 1.6.0_31-b05 with Weka 3.7.5) and OS X 10.6 (Java
1.6.0_29-b11-402-10M3527 with Weka 3.6.2 and 3.7.1) are behaving as
expected.

In summary, if you're running Linux and have some manner of control
over your VNC server, a "not very satisfying" solution should be to
try spawning with a slightly larger geometry (1280x1024 was large
enough for me to contain even the largest GenericObjectEditor I saw in
testing) or with a different window manager. Speculatively, if you're
running with OpenJDK, it's possible switching to an Oracle-provided
JRE would help (completely untested shot in the dark). Hope that
helps, at least until a better solution comes along.
