Title: Opportunity for lecturer in medicine in Uganda

Subtitle: The Department of Medicine, Mbarara University Teaching
Hospital

Would you like to undertake challenging clinical and research work as a
lecturer in medicine in Uganda? An opportunity has arisen for a one-year
post at Mbarara University Teaching Hospital, which is located in one of
the most beautiful countries in Africa.

The post offers a unique opportunity to be one of a team of five faculty
members of the Department of Medicine. Your responsibilities will
include inpatient and outpatient clinical duties, teaching of
undergraduate and postgraduate students, and you will also have a
managerial role important in the department for its successful
organisation and development.

The burden of disease is largely communicable diseases including malaria
and other acute infections, tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS-related
conditions. Almost two thirds of our inpatients are HIV positive.
Important non-communicable diseases include cardiac disease,
hypertension, renal disease and diabetes.

Applicants should have MRCP(UK) or equivalent. We highly recommend that
you gain as much knowledge and experience as possible in tropical
infectious diseases and HIV/AIDS medicine and its treatment, including
antiretroviral therapy. The DTM&H would provide invaluable preparation
for this job.

How to apply

Funded by the Tropical Health and Education Trust (THET), the
appointment starts in January 2012. Expressions of interest should be
sent to Dr Sylvia Watkins at THET, 5th Floor, 1 Wimpole Street, London
