CORNELL WINE COMPANY
ZINFANDEL TASTING

It is some time since I've sent one of our unscientific surveys after a tasting. This is because many times sales of wines have been equal. For example, at the Euro Taste-Off we sold the same number of each wine, except the Portuguese won by one more. Not enough to claim a real win!

This time we had a winner - the SOBON ESTATE 2008 FIDDLETOWN. We sold out, and in fact some of the late arrivals did not get to taste it as I'd sold one of the bottles I normally hold back for the tasting. It is interesting that early in the evening this was a very controversial wine - some just did not like it!

Second place was the PEZZI KING 2009 DRY CREEK VALLEY, and when you add the bottles we sold to people who tasted it on Saturday, it all but caught up with the SOBON.

In third place was the PEIRANO ESTATE 2019 IMMORTAL, followed by the RIDGE2009 GEYSERVILLE (our Premium Pour).

Last place was the ORIN SWIFT 2008 SALDO - this was in the Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines of 2010. I've often questioned the WS judgement!

Cheers,

Mick
