I am so glad that they changed the verification to normal looking letters
and numbers. The first kind they were using this go-round were driving me
crazy.
That said...I've been checking every day and I've been watching our
percentage go from 25% to 24 to 23 and I want it to go back up! This is a
fairly long contest, so don't forget to vote for Belly Rubs Basset Rescue in
Knoxville, TN. this time.
You can easily have them send you a daily email to remind you to click for
food for animals...and then you can also click on Shelter Challenge and vote
for Belly Rubs. Go to www.theanimalrescuesite.com and look for the purple
paw at the bottom of the page. Click next to it and just sign up with your
email address. Each day you'll receive an email reminding you and then it
only takes a few moments to do both.

Elder Claras Alma Mater is doing well in this round of the Shelter Challenge
keep voting this round of the Challenge ends the 19th of June so only a few
more weeks.
Everyone might be thinking who might be able to win next time. And put your
two cents worth in it needs to be a Rescue in a State with less competition
because in States where there are too many large rescues a small Basset
rescue has less of a chanace to win even with all of the Droolers voting
daily.

I don't begin to know all the ins and outs of the Shelter Challenge...but DO know that the decision to funnel our votes toward one rescue has had proven results. I also understand that a big part of that success has to do with the competition we're up against in each state. I have ties to ABCBHR...but NY is a highly competitive state...so, sadly, all our pooled votes would not likely be enough to win anything for ABC.
That said...I did some VERY informal "research" and second the suggestion that we consider House of Puddles for our next round of voting. Currently, Belly Rubs is 24th overall in the US voting. The rescue in Maryland with the highest number of votes is currently 36th overall. I think we may have a chance in Maryland.

I wonder if we could win in 2 states. I just checked and today we are at 22% & the next closest group is only at 6%. We only need to be ahead, doesn't need to be such a huge gap. If everyone votes morning & night we could designate 1 group in the morning & 1 in the evening or everyone votes 1 group by firefox & another group by internet explorer / safari.

That would really depend on the states, and we don't know what the lead would be until we start. I'd hate to lose everything by splitting votes in states where there are more voters.

Thanks Karen for wanting to vote for me again we tried that twice and I did
not win so I think WMBRI should bow out of the Shelter Challenge there are
so many rescues in Missouri it is RiDQlous LOL. ( and some cheat) They have
people voting all day long for them. All you have to do to cheat is turn off
your browsing history. I got an email by mistake once from a rescue in
Missouri ( non Basset) that told how to cheat and asked everyone on their
email list to vote for them 14 times a day. I do not believe in cheating so
I will not use the methods they sent me.
I was quite touched by the emails from the Basset Rescue Crew of the
Southeast and Suncoast Basset rescues their stories touched my heart.
I think ABC rescue is a good cause too but sounds like these other two have
little going on to get funds.
BaRCSE Story reminds me of a lot of the things we see come through our
rescue if that has any weight I would nominate them.

Belly Rubs Basset Rescue is doing great in this round of the Shelter Challenge
thanks to faithful voting by droolers. One more week to go--keep voting. Has
anyone else noted something funny about the numbers on the results chart? If you
add up all the percentages on the Tennessee chart, the total percentage of all
votes cast comes way short of 100%. The legend above the charts says that the
figures are only "benchmarks", not accurate tallies. So it is not really clear
what the real numbers are (why it is important to keep voting). Still, surely
the relative proportions aren't way off....let's hope. (This explains why there
was that huge jump in numbers overnight one time last go around when we were
voting for Ozark Mountain).
And has a consensus developed yet on which shelter will get our votes next time?
Off the top of my head I can recall nominations for BarCSE, House of Puddles,
and Looziana. Are all three registered with Petfinder? (The Rescue needs to be
registered with Petfinder to participate, if I remember correctly).
It is a great pleasure to be able to use collective basset voting power to help
out rescues.

Looziana Basset Rescue has no ranking and has 150 other shelters to compete
against in their State.
BarSE is 98th in ranking and has 200 shelters to compete against.
House of Puddles I could not find on Petfinder. There are 312 Shelters in
Maryland.
So which one should we vote for?

Who wants to pick a name out of the hat for our next Shelter Challeng we
have Wyoming, BaRCSE from South Carolina, and Looziana so far. Since HOP is
not a Petfinder member.

Hi --
While all three of the rescues that have been suggested would be great and
so worthy of winning, a look at the current shelter challenge results shows
that South Carolina has two rescues that are 12th and 13th in the
standings, so I think it would be pretty impossible for us (who now have put Belly
Rubs at # 25) to beat them. But it looks like we'd have a great chance
with either Louisiana (Hobo Hotel is their top one now, at 77) or Wyoming
(Cheyenne Animal Shelter is 98).
There are only 42 rescues in Wyoming I know we could get them to win. But Looziana is a good rescue and needs funds too what do you all think?
This is just my own personal opinion and of course I will vote for whatever
Rescue the group decides on -- but I would personally prefer to vote for a
group that has members on the Drool, it makes it a lot more fun. I know
Looziana used to have some Droolers, but don't think Wyoming does. Anyone?
And guys, it looks to me like we could vote for Chris Bly's WMBRI and win.
We have Belly Rubs at # 25, and the first Missouri rescue on the list is at
# 30. doG knows Chris could use the funds. I like voting for people who
are active on the Drool.

I like Karens idea lets try splitting our votes so two rescues can win
anyone got a map so we can count out who votes for who? And how about our
Canadian and European countries how do our sister rescues do on Petfinder?
Or we could make a list of each rescue that comes forward and asks to be our
voting Partner to be put on the list and each time we vote for the one
suggested first, second third, so on. I could keep the list and put
Loozianna on as our first group then Wyoming next time what do you think?
I think it is so great we all band together and get our group to win three
times in a row now.

In view of Dawns post I say we vote for Loozianna this round and Wyoming
next unless you all think we could split votes and win both like Karen
suggested.
Kaen suggested to me that instead of splitting States we could vote
Loozianna on odd days and Wyoming on even days and if one seems to pull out
ahead or both seem to get behind then we could readjust our voting and vote
strictly Loozianna and then Wyoming next Shelter Challenge in the fall.
I like the idea of the treats to pick the one we vote for do not get me
wrong but this does seem urgent for Loozianna if they will not have a chance
in the future to win it.

I thought that BaRCSE sent a drool post that they did not think they could
win and withdrew? Am I hallucinating again?
Dawn of Daphneyland posted there is a big name shelter coming to Louisianna
soon so this may be Loozianna Basset Rescues only chance to win.
I will do whatever everyone decides. We have about two or three weeks to
decide.

Just adding my 2-cents...
I agree with Chris Bly and several of the other Droolers -- let's
concentrate on Loozianna for the next challenge.
Also, I firmly believe that trying to split votes would be a total disaster!
