Hi folks -
Earlier this year, Central LSA coordinated the distribution of passes to
the Des Moines Blank Park Zoo intended for use in the 2010 Summer
Library Program. Thanks to all of you who are participating!
The folks at the Blank Park Zoo have asked me to distribute the message
below, which outlines in more detail the ways that libraries are
expected to use the passes. This is a wonderful opportunity for the
young people who participate in Iowa's summer library programs - please
read and respect the few limitations that the Zoo has established for
the use of the passes.
Let me know if you have any questions. And just a reminder - I am sure
the folks at the Zoo would appreciate your dropping them a thank you
note regarding their generous contribution to the success of your
programs.
Thanks! --Roy

FROM THE BLANK PARK ZOO
We have had some questions at the Zoo from several libraries about the
passes the Blank Park Zoo has given to libraries this year. We thought
we would write them down to clear up confusion.
What is the promotion?
The Blank Park Zoo has made available over 40,000 children's passes to
central Iowa libraries to be used as a reward to encourage summer
reading. Typically libraries offer rewards to children who read a
certain number of books or pages.
When are they to be given out?
The Blank Park Zoo asks that they be given out as a reward when the
child completes a certain level of reading. The Blank Park Zoo prefers
that the passes be given out in the middle to late summer (last couple
weeks of July and August).
We are planning a different promotion, can we use these passes for other
purposes?
While the program is designed for the above promotion, you may use these
for other similar promotions. The Blank Park Zoo asks that you only give
ONE pass per participant, and if possible, the pass is distributed in
middle to late summer. We ask that you do not leave a stack of passes on
a counter for customers to take as many as they wish.
May we sell these passes to raise money for our library?
These passes are not valid if they are sold. The Blank Park Zoo is
managed by a not-for-profit foundation and we appreciate your
cooperation in the matter.
We have run out of our supply of passes, may we have more?
At this time the Blank Park Zoo surpassed its quota of passes available
to this year's program and we are not able to provide more.
Thanks so much for participating and we hope your reading and literacy
programs are a success.
