Dear Burkelers,
Present Tense: A Journal of Rhetoric in Society just published an interesting article on the Tea Party, Atlas Shrugged, and Burke's rhetoric of victimhood. In the article, Brian Jackson of BYU argues that we can use Burke's theory to understand the appeal of Rand's writing for Tea Partiers, and, further, that an understanding Burke's model is necessary for effective engagement with this emergent political order.
The work seems especially timely in light of recent (and ongoing) events. You can find the article here:

Hi,
This is a terriffic essay, a model of its kind; must reading for those of us
who tend to substitute jargon for thought.
I'd have said this as a comment but I couldn't read and reproduce the word
pairs designed to show that I'm human.

Hi Dr. Simons,
Thank you for reading the article. I'm sure Dr. Jackson will be
honored by your praise.
Your comment is currently 'live' on the site. Comments usually take
6-12 hours to post because our technical editors have to sort the
spam from legitimate messages.
Cheers,

Don't take that as evidence that you're not human, though.
