Thoughtful piece on rampage murders/mental illness/politics whose
implications for the "mentally ill" are very disturbing. Cites the
work of E. Fuller Torrey.

you can write an
"on the web" piece reviewing the article, a letter to the editor or a
commentary for the Journal of Participatory Medicine's special issue
on mental health. I'm also looking for book reviews for specific books
like "On Our Own" by Judi Chamberlin and "This Center Will not Hold"
by Elyn Saks. More information on the call for papers is at:
http://sites.google.com/site/mentalhealthcfp/ and you have to follow
the rules for authors at: http://www.jopm.org/submissions/

My sense is that Dennis posted this from the intuition
that we are at a fundamental impasse and that the
politics of respect for client/survivors must be newly
engaged. We should hear his voice on this.

Um, yes--I didn't say you shouldn't. He said that comments are closed
on the NYTimes site for the article so if he or anyone else wanted to
respond to this they could use the JOPM issue as a forum to speak out.
