The local (nw NJ) Shell has regular at $2.95/gallon, up two cents from
yesterday. According to the news reports I heard, the price of oil is
climbing because of demands for heating oil in the northeast US. I just
read predictions that gas is likely to be back up to $5 by 2012, for a
number of international political reasons.

The truth is that the price is up because the US Treasury is printing money
like toilet paper and thus devaluing the dollar. China and Russia have
already agreed not to use the dollar as the default currency to trade oil.
Many of the middle east countries now favor the Euro. When the whole world
decided to select another default currency we'll be in big time trouble. We
already are, we just don't realize it yet. I don't mean that as political.
It's just fact.

That's interesting that diesel is only $ .06 more. Seems like over the last year or two it usually has been $ .25 to $ .40 more per gallon. Or at least that's what I've seen around here in my travels.

I passed a Flying J station about 4:30 this evening with plans to fill up on my way back past about a 1/2 hour later. On the first trip past it was 2.99. On the second trip they were changing the sign to 3.09. One side of the sign was 2.99 the other 3.09 so I pulled in and filled up at 2.99. Made it just under the wire. :-)

That creates a double whammy. Cheaper dollar meaning higher import
prices and cheaper dollar meaning more money moving to speculation on
commodities like crude, wheat, corn, gold, etc. Double down on crude
prices.

Diesel costed 7.11 USD/Gallon when I filled my brand new Toyota Hi-lux for
the first time this morning.
Gas costs 7.44, that is for 95 octane (hard to get any lower rate here).

Double down on crude
prices.
Political yes but cold hard facts as well.

We are right around $3 here in eastern NC. I got regular for 2.97 last night and was proud of it! Highest I have seen is 3.06, but that location is always higher than everyone else.
$5 gas scares the living daylights out of me! Don't see how the economy can recover with that.

We are right around $3 here in eastern NC. I got regular for 2.97 last night and was proud of it! Highest I have seen is 3.06, but that location is always higher than everyone else.
$5 gas scares the living daylights out of me! Don't see how the economy can recover with that.

I think the high fuel costs is what crashed the economy last time.
$3 per gallon is all the traffic will bear.
Refuse to pay high prices, shop around, drive less, let them know we
won't pay it.

That's interesting that diesel is only $ .06 more. Seems like over the last year or two it usually has been $ .25 to $ .40 more per gallon. Or at least that's what I've seen around here in my travels.

Here in Coastal Central California, Gasoline prices are in the range of
$3.20 to $3.40 depending on the station. Diesel prices are at $3.44 and very
much higher depending on the station. I was looking at my fuel costs for a
year ago for the farm trucks and comparing them with this month, and even
with fewer miles travelled they are up substantially! One thing about
farming year round, is that the costs just never stop! Electricity costs are
lower because the rain has been keeping us out of the fields for cultivating
and some planting activities unfortunately - I have several fields that
REALLY need cultivating and the planting schedule is starting to get
impacted. But the summer and fall plantings are producing nicely at this
point and so we are extremely busy.
Carrots, Turnips, Rutabagas, Radishes, Cabbage, Spinach, Greens and
Herbs are all growing and we are picking and selling them. On the other hand
both my workers and I are getting wet and muddy a lot.... I expect 2011 to
be another tough year, but hope that margins will improve and that will
allow me to do better. I am thankful to be doing the job I do love.

Double down on crude
prices.
Political yes but cold hard facts as well.

Diesel costed 7.11 USD/Gallon when I filled my brand new Toyota Hi-lux for

Gas costs 7.44, that is for 95 octane (hard to get any lower rate here).

We are right around $3 here in eastern NC. I got regular for 2.97 last night and was proud of it! Highest I have seen is 3.06, but that location is always higher than everyone else.
$5 gas scares the living daylights out of me! Don't see how the economy can recover with that.

I think the high fuel costs is what crashed the economy last time.
$3 per gallon is all the traffic will bear.
Refuse to pay high prices, shop around, drive less, let them know we
won't pay it.

IMHO the worst effect on the economy is that virtually everything will have

shipping so prices have to follow :(

I think that a lot of people get confused about the type of corn used in ethanol production. The whole "food or fuel arguement." It's not sweet corn, its corn for grain. Now, yes it is used in livestock feed so from that standpoint we do eat it indirectly. I doubt you'd notice the difference in price at the grocery store since ethanol production has increased. I do think you'll see a difference in food prices with $5 fuel. (Plus, the big livestock vertical integrators have been sponging off grain farmers (ie cheap corn and soybeans) for years. It's time they pay their due.)
I don't think ethanol is perfect, but first I don't think there's anything wrong with farmers making a little money off grain for a change, and second, it's a piece of the solution. Not "THE" solution, but a step towards it.
I'm getting real political real fast so I am done posting on this thread--so don't bother posting your disagreement with me because you're wrong.... ;) Bottom line is, high gas prices suck and we're all in a mess if it goes up much past $3.

Double down on crude
prices.
Political yes but cold hard facts as well.

I think the high fuel costs is what crashed the economy last time.
$3 per gallon is all the traffic will bear.
Refuse to pay high prices, shop around, drive less, let them know we
won't pay it.

IMHO the worst effect on the economy is that virtually everything will have
to go up. Everything I can think of is shipped so if fuel goes up so does
shipping so prices have to follow :(

I am at the age, I don't have an humble opinion. I not sure I have an
opinion. I will say, I have never heard a country gets itself out of trouble
by printing more and more money. I have heard of countries that tried it and
failed. It is called tighten the belt and do without, quit spending more
than we have ... duh .... $600-700 3 pt JD single bottoms plows are
ridiculous, but I have seen 2 of them now. I want one, but not at that

I just had 500 gal of farm fuel delivered here. $2.80/gal highway diesel
was 3.10/gal Salme price as in town at the station, but I don.t have to
try to maneuver the truck and trailer into the tight turns, so it is a
better deal. Justy hurts to spend nearly $1800 for fuel. I also have a 60
kw generator to run the place when the power fails, so I have to keep the
500 gal tank full in the winter. However at 70 gal/day, I try to use it
sparingly.

The truth is that the price is up because the US Treasury is printing money
like toilet paper and thus devaluing the dollar. China and Russia have
already agreed not to use the dollar as the default currency to trade oil.
Many of the middle east countries now favor the Euro. When the whole world
decided to select another default currency we'll be in big time trouble. We
already are, we just don't realize it yet. I don't mean that as political.
It's just fact.

I want one, but not at that
price

However at 70 gal/day, I try to use it
sparingly.

I do not know how much electric consumption you have, Cecil, but
running your generator the daily cost for fuel is just about equal to
my power company bills for two months. Ouch. I hope your power does
not go out too often.
