>This is extreme, but I've found the trick to Roden decals is nearly
boiling >water. I couldn't get my Fokker D.VI lozenge to settle down.
The decals >laughed at my decal softeners etc.
>Someone on HyperScale suggested wicked hot water. It seems to work.
This obviously won't work for the ones which break in to tiny little
pieces as soon as they hit water, of which I've had more than my fair
share.
Other than the decals and the fact that they've abandoned 1/72 I can
find no reason to gripe about Roden kits.

That was the Albatros DIII oeffag ser.253, all the complications

I never did build the Revell kit, but as I understand we should be

PS. The fact that I like Roden doesn't mean I dislike WNW! Far from it,
I just wish they'd see the light and scale down their Fe2b to 1/72.

I've built the standard Roden D.III kit and found it a relatively easy
build (other than decals that broke up in the water). I've recently been
given a pile of old kits including some Revell D.IIIs. I have to say I
don't like the wings on the Revell kit.
Talking of which, I've been working on that updated airfix Spad this
week. I did not meet any problems sanding down the lower wings and
reskinning them. I spent most of last night adding shutters to the
radiator. I've got the upper wings to reskin next.

Excellent, way to go! I never did it, but that must be the best thing to
do with Airfix Spad wings, they are nice and thin. I know you want to
make it completely Airfix, but if one was trying to build an ultimate
Spad 7, reskinned Airfix wings on a MAC or Pegasus fuselage might be the
best.

Excellent, way to go! I never did it, but that must be the best thing to
do with Airfix Spad wings, they are nice and thin. I know you want to
make it completely Airfix, but if one was trying to build an ultimate
Spad 7, reskinned Airfix wings on a MAC or Pegasus fuselage might be the
best.

That was the Albatros DIII oeffag ser.253, all the complications
and problems were entirely of my own making. The kit was excellent.
I never did build the Revell kit, but as I understand we should be
very happy that Roden and Part have made it much easier to achieve
a classy model.

As I've just finished my first Roden kit, I can finally have an opinion.
They're great.

That was the Albatros DIII oeffag ser.253, all the complications
and problems were entirely of my own making. The kit was excellent.
I never did build the Revell kit, but as I understand we should be
very happy that Roden and Part have made it much easier to achieve
a classy model.

PS. The fact that I like Roden doesn't mean I dislike WNW! Far from it,
I just wish they'd see the light and scale down their Fe2b to 1/72.
And of course they need to do a full range of Spads. )

Spad 7, reskinned Airfix wings on a MAC or Pegasus fuselage might be the
best.

No, it was very good for it's day, but the MAC kit is better.
The problem with the MAC kit is that it is only for a late version,

This obviously won't work for the ones which break in to tiny little

Other than the decals and the fact that they've abandoned 1/72 I can
find no reason to gripe about Roden kits.

No, it was very good for it's day, but the MAC kit is better.
The problem with the MAC kit is that it is only for a late version,

No, it was very good for it's day, but the MAC kit is better.
The problem with the MAC kit is that it is only for a late version,
and of course the thick trailing edges.
I'd love Roden to release a 1/72 Spad 7.

Fine, but don't make it a rule of thumb. Roden decals have (veeery) slowly
gotten better over the years, and the ones I used for the SSW D.III review
worked well.

at least Roden kits are easier to get than MACkits, in these lands I know.

This obviously won't work for the ones which break in to tiny little
pieces as soon as they hit water, of which I've had more than my fair
share.
Other than the decals and the fact that they've abandoned 1/72 I can
find no reason to gripe about Roden kits.

Which kit did you build?

That was the Albatros DIII oeffag ser.253, all the complications
and problems were entirely of my own making. The kit was excellent.
I never did build the Revell kit, but as I understand we should be
very happy that Roden and Part have made it much easier to achieve
a classy model.

PS. The fact that I like Roden doesn't mean I dislike WNW! Far from it,
I just wish they'd see the light and scale down their Fe2b to 1/72.
And of course they need to do a full range of Spads. )

Dave

Excellent, way to go! I never did it, but that must be the best thing to
do with Airfix Spad wings, they are nice and thin. I know you want to
make it completely Airfix, but if one was trying to build an ultimate
Spad 7, reskinned Airfix wings on a MAC or Pegasus fuselage might be the
best.

I dont think the fuselage is too bad. I've had to rework the (for want
of a better word) cylinder humps as these are very understated on the
original kit but other than that I haven't touched the fuselage (yet!)

No, it was very good for it's day, but the MAC kit is better.
The problem with the MAC kit is that it is only for a late version,
and of course the thick trailing edges.
I'd love Roden to release a 1/72 Spad 7.

Yes for sure, seeing as it isn't a Spad or a Nieuport, it should be
easy to persuade him.

Hi D
Sorry, but black eyed pies don't really really do anything for me. How
about a bit of Camel?

Well, he was nieuportized enough, or so I've heard. His standards have
slipped with a gracious turn, it seems.

we must remind him to keep off his hands from PC10 paint in this case,
