I stopped by the field on Richmond Road to look for the Cattle Egrets on my way to work this morning. I found the field, and a couple of cows, but no egrets. Hopefully they're roosting somewhere close by and will return later (the egrets, that is, not the cows!).
On Rushmore Road, however, I did see a Rough-legged Hawk hovering above the field, a Northern Harrier hunting in the field beyond it, and hundreds of small songbirds flying over the road. I believe these were mostly Horned Larks, but didn't get a good enough look at them and don't know their call notes well enough to be certain.
Directions to the Cattle Egret field:
>From Bells Corners take Richmond Road south approximately 6 km crossing over Fallowfield Rd to the location. It is 1.3 km south of Fallowfield on the west side.
Directions to Rushmore Road:
>From the Cattle Egret site: Follow Richmond Road south and take the first right - the turn is less than a kilometre away. The two raptors were seen on the north side about halfway down the road.
Independent directions (courtesy of Neilyworld): From Highway 416 take exit 66 (Fallowfield Road). If southbound, a 0.4 km offramp dumps onto Fallowfield, where you will turn right or west. If northbound, the 0.4 km offramp brings you to Fallowfield, where you will turn left or west onto it and in 0.5 km join the southbound offramp traffic. Both groups will now follow Fallowfield Road west 4.5 km from here, passing Moodie Drive and Richmond Road to reach Eagleson Road. Turn left or southeast onto Eagleson Road and drive 2.1 km to Rushmore Road.
