This evening Eileen Balian spotted a PEREGRINE FALCON perched over
Lighthouse Field. As usual, two AMERICAN KESTRELS were present. Off
Its Beach, another JAEGER sp. was chasing ELEGANT TERNS. Two COMMON
MURRES were also present. One male SURF SCOTER flew north.

A beautifully plumaged OSPREY alighted in a snag in Lighthouse Field this morning - they so often look scruffy to me. Three JAEGERS of various bulk and lightness/darkness were working the terns off It's Beach. Phil and Michelle were skulking in the willows.

I just came in from changing a lightbulb by our front steps to find a SHARP-SHINNED HAWK in the house, trying to get out the glass back door. I opened the door and away it flew. Yesterday there was a beautiful male COMMON GOLDENEYE diving very close to the beach at Mitchell's Cove; a female-type RED-BREASTED MERGANSER was nearby. About 150 RED-THROATED LOONS were on the ocean off John St., with many more flying west. Earlier this morning at Golf Club Drive I observed a tight flock of 75 smallish light-colored birds, which I would usually have called Cedar Waxwings, but the flocking behavior seemed less orderly than I expect for Waxwings. Do Pine Siskins flock like that? I had no binocs.
