Foer has always had a difficult time with giving a clear and concise message
on the issue of eating animals....this is why I don't reference his book or
opinion. I wish he was forthright and stopped with his apparent insinuations
that it is factory farming that is the problem.

Great interview? Seriously or sarcastically?
I don't see much difference between vegetarians and meat eaters. Other than
meat eaters know that for their pleasure animals were killed and vegetarians
think or try to think that no one was killed for their gastronomic pleasure.
Once I read this line:
"the book relates both overwhelming animal cruelty and the 1 percent of farmers
who strive for more humane methods"
I left the page.
More humane methods? Striving for more humane raping, stealing-killing babies,
stealing milk, which is meant for the babies, eggs, hair - exploiting and
killing when production goes down... Here we go again. I hope you meant "great"
in a sarcastic way.

I so agree, there is nothing humane about killing, mutilating, stealing
babies and killing them, transporting them, confining them!
J. Foer sucks.

Thanks Louie,
I never recommend his book for the same reason. He just does not get it
when it comes to sentient beings....If his dog was humanely raised,
would he like his dog eaten? I bet not.

Linda, exactly. That is the question I put forth to all the people
(including animal advocacy organization leaders) who support the idea that
THE problem is factory farming or who promote campaigns which clearly paint
the picture that eating the vestiges of "humanely" raised farmed animals is
a morally responsible choice. And that is of course, if it is so "humane",
why aren't you advocating "humane" dog or cat eating???

I think he's getting many people to take 'the first step". He doesn't
eat any meat. Have a feeling he will move on to veganism. Have seen
him send home an audience ready to drastically alter their diets -
drastic for them. Gave him my husband's essay on the existential joy of
veganism. He seemed really interested, as he wants to hear and tell
stories about these shifts. Debbie

Yes, no one would want their child, their dog, or themselves to be exploited and
killed even if their life conditions can be way better then those of farm
animals.
I think the most cunning thing about all those "humane" actions in relation with
animal agribusiness is the original lie based on misuse of the word "humane".
When advocates use that word and say that
"of course there can't be "humane slaughter" or "humane meat", but we use it to
give animals a chance for a better treatment at least."
Using that word they don't give a single chance to the animals - they take
chances from them.
If those advocates want to be honest they should at least use the phrase "less
brutal" - may be that could some how resemble the idea.
The industry would never go for it, because they want the word "humane" attached
to animal agribusiness - so that they can sell suffering, fear and death while
everyone is comforted around with the "more humane" PR. The industry would
never say "we want to be less brutal"
I don't think Foer even remotely gets it. In that very same interview he
compares slaughter with child birth, meaning both are bloody.

I have seen him send traditional religionists home ready to drastically
alter their diets - drastic for them. I don't condemn vegetarians
because I was once one of them. Many of them are on the path, as are
many necrovores (That's so great. Was it someone on this list who came
up with it?) He wants to hear and tell stories of these shifts in
consciousness and perception.....so, I was not being sarcastic. .
Louie, I like your call for him to clarify his position and message, and
look forward to watching his progress..
Debbie.
